B2W The Blog

Welcome to my first 2 weeks of the course!

Where do I start? Well on my first day on the course, there was various feelings and thoughts going through my head, I was excited but also nervous because I had no idea what the experience was going to be like. The day began with me being introduced to my tutor Adele, and Tina, who I grew fond of very quickly due to their warmth and enthusiasm of the course which definitely put me at ease. They explained what the process would be and how we will manoeuvre through the course over the next few weeks. A few hours into the course we were all placed in breakout room where everyone was in a group of 4/5 people, this is where we were able to connect with our other classmates, getting to know each others backgrounds and personalities which most definitely helped everyone get a lot closer. By the end of the day, the initial nerves I had at the start faded away and I became a lot more intrigued in what was to come next.

Over the first two weeks we have been able to complete several different assessments, such as basic use of digital devices, digital presence awareness and safety and many more that I have thoroughly enjoyed. As much as I have enjoyed these assessments, the one that has captured my interest the most has been the cybersecurity module where I have been able to learn about various cyber crimes and threats whilst also gaining knowledge on how phishing, hacking, malware, trojans etc. can affect individuals as well as organisations. On top of this, we have also learned about different strategies on how to avoid becoming a victim of cybercrime, some strategies include: not disclosing personal information to unknown sources, not opening emails or attachments from unknown sources, changing your password regularly etc. These proactive measures are vital when protecting yourself online. Another reason why I have really enjoyed the cybersecurity is because not only has been informative but I has also been incredibly engaging which has sparked an even deeper interest for myself.

We was also able to explore the ethical as well as unethical conduct in relation to Cybersecurity. Being able to understand the ethical and unethical considerations as well as see it from a perspective I never knew of beforehand has allowed me to appreciate the complexities even more. An example of ethical and unethical actions are shown below:

As the first two weeks of this amazing course is coming to an end, I happy to say that I have no regrets taking this course as it has increased my confidence and knowledge in digital technology, cybersecurity and telephone communications. I’ve gone from feeling the initial nerves I had on the first day to now being excited for the journey of the last 2 weeks. I also thank my tutors, Adele and Tina, for making the course feel personal by supporting individually, as well as in a group. As much as the cybersecurity module has stood out as the most captivating topic, I can confidently say that every assessment that we have studied has broadened my knowledge and skills in all areas. I am looking forward to the final two weeks and I am very eager to continue to learn, grow and advance in this course!
